Lesley Kerrigan | Women’s & Young People’s Coach – Wirral, Merseyside, Cheshire & Online

I help women exit the capability trap so they can lead, parent and live without chronic over-responsibility. Coaching for young people around confidence, anxiety, friendships, school stress and family dynamics.

You hold everything together.

And nobody notices you're the one holding it.

In our work together, we see the role you've been carrying, understand where it was set, and actually put it down.

Not by becoming less capable. By teaching your nervous system that you don't have to over-function to stay safe anymore.

The work is warm, honest, and goes deeper than boundary scripts.

Because this isn't about learning to say no better. It's about becoming someone who no longer needs permission to choose herself.

You hold everything together.

And the reason you can't stop is the same reason nobody's noticed you should.

You're a thoughtful, capable woman who's been the one keeping things steady, at work, in your family, in relationships. You're reliable. You don't make a fuss.

But under that? You're exhausted.

You were trained early to manage other people's emotional states. To anticipate moods. To smooth conflict. To hold what shouldn't have been yours to carry. Patterns that often started in complicated mother-daughter dynamics, where children became the stabilisers and learned that over-functioning was how you stayed safe, how you stayed connected.

And because you're so good at it, the system around you learned it doesn't have to change.

You might be managing contact, low-contact, or even estrangement.

You've probably done the spa days, self development, read the books, tried the boundaries.

But the guilt still shows up.

The dread before family events.

The hypervigilance.

The way you're bracing before you've even opened her text.

And here's what makes it so hard to change: every time you try to put the role down, it doesn't feel like boundary-setting. It feels like failing at being yourself.

I help women exit these inherited family roles, especially the ones built in complicated mother-daughter dynamics, where the cost of staying the same has become higher than the cost of changing.

The work happens at the level where the role was first set: your nervous system. By teaching your body that you don't have to over-function to stay safe anymore.

When your nervous system learns you're safe now, everything shifts.

The hypervigilance settles.

The chronic bracing releases.

At work, you stop overthinking.

In your marriage, you stop making yourself smaller.

In parenting, you hold your child's emotions without becoming dysregulated.

With your mother, boundaries come from steadiness, not fear.

You get your life back. Not by cutting everyone off. Not by becoming harder.

But by finally being free to live from choice, not obligation.

What Changes When You Exit the Role

Internally:

• Guilt stops running your decisions

• You no longer feel responsible for everyone’s emotions

• Hyper-vigilance softens

• You trust your own perception

Externally:

• Boundaries become clean instead of explosive

• Family dynamics reorganise

• Career decisions feel clearer

• Parenting shifts without panic

• Your energy returns

This isn’t mindset work.

It’s role exit.

The Capability Trap: Why High-Achieving Women Can't Stop Over-Functioning

Capable women often struggle to set boundaries not because they lack skills, but because their competence makes the problem invisible. Here's why over-functioning persists, and what actually helps.

The support you’ve needed for years — from someone who really understands what it’s been like.

Coaching for women who are ready to stop living by old emotional patterns — and start making choices that feel like theirs.

You don’t need another course, another strategy, or another person telling you to “just set better boundaries.” You need space to understand what’s really driving you — the guilt, the pressure, the constant second-guessing that comes from years of managing complex family dynamics.

Especially the ones around your mother.

You’ve spent a lifetime trying to be the steady one.

Now you’re ready to be the priority.

Together, we look at the emotional roles you’ve carried — why it’s felt so hard to choose yourself, and how to move forward in a way that feels clean, clear, and finally yours.

I’m a warm, honest, professional coach — offering real support that’s personal, grounded, and designed around what you need. You’ll get tools, emotional clarity, and space to explore what kind of mother/daughter or family relationships you want going forward — so you can live a life that feels good to be in, not just one you’ve learned to manage.

For the woman who looks capable — and quietly carries too much

Many high-achieving women are praised for their reliability, composure and emotional intelligence.

Few are asked where those traits were formed.

If you learned early to stabilise your mother’s emotions, to anticipate tension or to keep the peace, that adaptation does not disappear when you enter leadership, motherhood or partnership. It often becomes your strength — and your strain.

You may find yourself over-functioning at work, struggling to delegate without guilt, over-explaining decisions, or feeling responsible for outcomes beyond your remit. In your personal life, you may still feel unsettled after setting boundaries, anxious when someone is disappointed, or exhausted from carrying emotional weight that was never fully yours.

This is not a time-management issue.

It is an inherited relational role.

My work helps you untangle that role at its root — through structured inquiry, nervous system awareness and grounded emotional and energetic work — so leadership becomes steadier, boundaries cleaner and relationships less burdened by invisible responsibility.

You remain capable.

You no longer carry what was never yours.

What emotional coaching with me feels like

This is a space for women who want to move forward — but feel caught in patterns they didn’t choose, and don’t know how to stop.

It’s deep, personal, and designed to help you move forward —into a life that feels like yours.

If you’ve always been the one who keeps things calm, carries the emotional weight, and avoids conflict — you know what it’s like to feel responsible for everyone else’s comfort. You’ve learned how to be useful, thoughtful, available —but not how to be at the centre of your own life. That’s what we work on together.

You’ll get support that’s practical, warm, and grounded in emotional clarity —so you can:

  • Learn to connect with your real needs, and value them without guilt or explanation

  • Get tools to regulate your nervous system when resentment, shame, or anxiety take over

  • Stop managing other people’s emotions — and start listening to your own

  • Reconnect with your own joy, energy, and the quiet knowing of what you want next

  • Build self-trust without chasing approval, validation, or reassurance

  • Create boundaries that protect your time, energy, and emotional wellbeing

  • Shift from overgiving and exhaustion into a life that feels steady, supported, and yours

I draw on a mix of insight-based inquiry, nervous system awareness, coaching frameworks, and emotional tools like EFT, Bach flower remedies, and mindfulness. We work both practically and energetically —so you not only understand the patterns, but feel safe enough to change them. This is the quiet alchemy of this work, not just healing the past, but helping you create a life you can actually feel good in.

Why me?

I know what it’s like to grow up managing emotions, avoiding conflict, and feeling responsible for things that were never mine to carry.

I’ve done this work myself — and I bring that understanding into everything I offer.

This support is honest, warm, and steady.

It’s built on years of learning, lived experience, and the tools that helped me move forward.

You won’t be met with pressure, performance, or perfectionism.

Just practical support, emotional clarity, and space to figure out what’s really right for you.

And it can feel better.

12-Week Deep Support

A longer-term space for women ready to create real change.

We look at the emotional roots of your patterns — especially those tied to the mother wound or early family dynamics — and build the tools, self-trust, and boundaries you need to move forward with more clarity, capacity, and choice.

Coaching for Young People

You’re doing what’s expected — school, sixth form, college showing up, getting on with things.

But inside, it’s a lot. And it doesn’t feel like anyone really sees it.

You might not know why you feel the way you do.

You just know it’s exhausting to keep it all in.

This is a quiet space to talk (or not talk), figure things out at your own pace, and be with someone who gets how much you're holding — without pressure or pretending.

I work with women navigating complicated family dynamics, including mother–daughter tension, family estrangement and the deeper “mother wound” that can shape self‑worth, boundaries and relationships.
